Reading other reviews and viewing the pictures of this bench it appeared to be a good deal for a nice piece of furniture. We were wrong. Although this looks nice and sturdy, it is extremely flimsy. Once we had put it together, the bench had a lot of lateral play in it making it less than ideal to actually use as a bench when putting shoes on and taking them off (safety concerns). The bench also took several weeks of airing out in order to get the "fresh staining" smell out of it. We'd often have to leave the chest part open to allow the fumes to escape otherwise you'd be overcome by it when you'd open it, every time.
We ended up having to get a large piece of thick plywood to cut down, fit, and secure into the back of the bench in order to make it sturdy enough to sit on. I'm not sure the bench is going to or would survive a move for those who move a lot with their jobs.
Bottom line: Take your money elsewhere.
These are very "cushy" for feet especially in the kitchen or work area. Additionally, they don't look "industrial" [like tire treads}. An added plus is they can be swept off or taken outside and hosed down. Have them everywhere in the house!
