It's Coming

Black widow lace dressSummer is still in the air, but around here, I'm starting to detect a little twinge of autumn in there, too, and it's making me think of one thing: Halloween. I know. I know. It's still early, but the stores are starting to carry Halloween decorations, so I think I can start making my plans, too.

I've picked out my Halloween costumes (I can never settle on just one) and am already brainstorming ideas for a Halloween party. It's pretty much all I can do to keep from stretching that fake spider web stuff all over everything I own and pulling out all my decorations. The key, I've decided, is to start slow. Ease myself into it. A little bit here, a little bit there, and I can start incorporating Halloween into my life without going full-blown on the whole thing too early.

Lovely Fall dinnerwareSo how do I start a little at a time? With patience, self-restraint and a new set of orange dishes. And really, these deliciously black ice cream bowls would look amazing sitting on my counter next to this tangerine orange KitchenAid mixer. Can't you just imagine eating scoops of lime sorbet out of those bowls in front of a campy old creature feature while a thunderstorm rages outside?

Witchy woman perfumeSlowly, ever so slowly and subtly, I'll start working a bit of black magic into my wardrobe, too -- a dash of black here, a smidgen of purple there, a bold orange scarf to finish the look. How charming would this sweet little pumpkin necklace be when the days begin to get shorter? Pull on a pair of bewitching boots, and you'll be ready for Halloween when it rolls around less than two months from now.

Am I the only one who's itching for Halloween season to start? Are there visions of candy corn and jack-o'-lanterns dancing through your head, too? If you have great Halloween plans brewing, let's hear about those, too.

When I was a kid, I didn't really care much about the dressing up part of Halloween, I just cared about the candy, so for like five years running I was a robber, which meant that I wore regular clothes and pulled a nylon over my head.

I WANT that dress. And I'm still planning on making glitter pumpkins for my new apartment. I also want to put a vase of cat tails on my kitchen table and invite people over for pumpkin pie. Halloween, to me, is more about rustic, harvesty stuff and less about the skeletons and black and orange. I think I get creeped out too easily.

Halloween nerd here, FREAKing out! I bought my annual pumpkin-scented candle this Labor Day weekend and I also spent a considerable amount of time at the Disney store wishing I could fit into the Alice, Pocahontas and Tinkerbell costumes. I mused aloud that I would wear them every day if I could and my husband wondered how long it would take my coworkers to pull me aside and say something about it. I wish October was three times longer than any other month!

You are not the only one itching. I also have a rash, I mean an itch. An itchy pumpkin-shaped rash in my heart hole. I might just be allergic to my cats though. I have a black cat and an orange cat so it's like itchy Halloween at my house everyday! I love Halloween. Good call on those black ice cream bowls and those orange dishes!

It's time to pull out the black capes and pumpkin scented candles.

Halloween! I can't wait! I'd better start eating candy now so I can fit enough in before November...

My black cat is my standard, year-round Halloween decoration too. She's really hard to get to sit next to pumpkins though, which I wish she would do all the time.
